WHAT IS BEAF?
BEAF, Bournemouth Emerging Arts Fringe, is a voluntary run creative organisation that provides a platform to support and develop the emerging independent arts sector across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.
The main activity is the annual BEAF festival which brings together over 150 artists and stages some 50 events, from theatre, performance, exhibitions, music, dance and spoken word. Events can be found in many locations but the main focus for the festival is in Boscombe.
Since 2019 BEAF has been gifted a building which is used as a pop-up theatre and gallery and for artists studios. Named B.A.D. Boscombe Arts Depot, it provides a much needed base for our developmental work, allowing artists access to free space for research, rehearsal and experimentation.
BEAF is more than a festival, providing a growing year round programme of projects to bring artists and communities together.
The work of BEAF is guided by 4 principles:
Place-making – using local knowledge, helping to develop bold, innovative arts-led projects to enhance and improve the local environment, relating to place
Place-branding – helping to promote the heritage and cultural identity of the place to create a better understanding of the world around us
Community – building stronger communities by involving local people and businesses with the creative community to help create positive change
Business Development – supporting the local creative sector to grow and develop, through actively working to find affordable workspaces and places to exhibit, perform and stage events
