Boscombe Pier: An Evolving Soundscape- Simon Kilmister
5th May 2019 | 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Since its opening on 29th July 1889, Boscombe Pier has stood strong and proud, attracting visitors for nearly 130 years. We know the familiar sounds we expect to hear when we visit, but what does the pier hear?
Using a collection of custom-made microphones, we can listen to the sounds, vibrations and resonances of the structure and its interactions with the environment surrounding it; the people, the walkway, the breaking waves and the seabed below. This cacophony of sound and vibration combine to perform a continuously evolving, never-ending symphony, captured live for the first time at BEAF 2019.
