SUMMARY:BEAF TAKEOVER ROYAL ARCADE : AN APPROPRIATE RESPONSE TO REALITY
DESCRIPTION:ROYAL ARCADE : UNIT 11 \nAN APPROPRIATE RESPONSE TO REALITY \n‘An appropriate response to reality’ is an exhibition curated by Aaron Peever and Callum Stacey. The exhibition will showcase works by Alice Cunniffe\, Jack Earls\, Aaron Peever\, and Callum Stacey. This exhibition responds to this year’s BEAF theme 2B Human through artworks made in restricted spaces from over the past year. Being a creative in restricted times has pushed each artist to work in limited spaces\, only being stimulated by the small worlds that surround us.  \nOur work is a reaction to the disruption of our reality. This year’s BEAF theme gave us a focus where we want to support mental health and we would like to ask each viewer to make a small donation to our chosen charity\, Dorset Mind and we encourage viewers to bring a food bank donation\, to be collected at the space.  \nArtists \nAaron Peever \nInstagram @peevers_artwork \nWebsite \nCallum Stacey \nInstagram @callum.s.designs \nWebsite \nAlice Cunniffe \nInstagram @alice.cunniffe \nJack Earls \nInstagram @jackearls.art

SUMMARY:THE PAPER CINEMA : MACBETH
DESCRIPTION:“with not a word spoken\, The Paper Cinema crafts a fine example of Shakespeare’s quintessential work… This isn’t just theatre\, but a love letter to animated process” \n– The Skinny\nThis is a digital presentation of Paper Cinema’s most recent acclaimed theatre show; a re-imagining of Macbeth as a cautionary tale for our times. With typical charm\, wit and invention the company takes its audience on a journey through rugged Scottish landscapes to encounter storms\, battles\, betrayal and murderous plot. Shakespeare’s tragedy is brought to life as beautifully drawn puppets\, evocative music\, foley and cinematic projection combine in a captivating silent film created before your eyes. \nThe film is 75 minutes long and has been carefully designed to give the audience the experience of watching The Paper Cinema in real time. It uses multiple cameras to give different perspectives of the work and is shot on location to enhance the story telling; it is an artistic work itself\, not simply a film of a performance. \n“… a feat of mechanics and human effort which would be impressive on its own\, but it’s made more noteworthy that the story of Macbeth is depicted as precisely as it is.” \n– The Stage\nWatch below the Making Of documentary (which includes interviews with the creators and behind the scenes footage)\, and audio of the original score by Chris Reed and Francesca Simmons.

It begins fairly normally with middle aged Evelyn Wang struggling with a failing business and a deteriorating marriage while failing to connect with her daughter Joy. However\, her depressing life is torn apart when she is visited by a consciousness from an alternate reality and finds that she alone can save the fate of all realities in the multiverse. A crazily inventive whirlwind of philosophical concepts\, martial arts and absurd humour\, this one has to be seen to be believed. \nLanguage: primarily English with Cantonese and Mandarin\, English subtitles  \nRunning time: Approx. 139m \nThis film contains: strong violence\, sex references and language.  \nBOOK HERE\n  \nAccess info:  \nDoors open from 7pm to have a chat and a drink and to grab a comfy seat\, the film starts at 7.30pm\, drinks and snacks are available. SUMMARY:B.A.D. CINEMA PRESENTS: RAFIKI
DESCRIPTION:About the event: \nDoors open from 7pm\, high-street entrance to Boscombe Arts Depot (B.A.D.) on Wednesday 26 October. We are delighted to continue our film screenings on Wednesday evenings with support from Film Hub South West through their audience development fund with BFI. This event is part of our autumn film programme series ‘The Show Must Go On.’ \nAbout the film: \nRafiki\, 2018 (12A) directed by Wanuri Kahiu \nStarring: Neville Misati\, Nice Githinji\, Samantha Mugatsia\, Vitalis Waweru\, Charlie Karumi\, Muthoni Gathecha \n“If ever there were a cinematic equivalent of “purple prose\,” the Kenyan director Wanuri Kahiu finds it.” Los Angeles Times \nWith beautiful scenes connected through shades of fuchsia and violet\, reflecting the femininity of the characters\, this gentle film follows the development of love between two young women. Set against the backdrop of the bustling streets of Nairobi\, the two very different girls must choose between love and safety surrounded by insular gossip\, local politics and burgeoning maturity. Their magnetic pull draws us into a queer Romeo and Juliet romance\, as they try to hide their relationship from their politically opposing fathers. \nDirected by Wanuri Kahiu\, part of a strong cohort of Kenyan female filmmakers\, Rafiki was the first Kenyan film to be included in the Un Certain Regard section in Cannes earlier this year\, and was then controversially banned from being shown in Kenya by the Kenya Film Classification Board. LGBTQ+\, Triple F Rated \nSpecial guests Khaleb Brooks and Queer Vision Film Festival will be in conversation after the film. \nLanguage: Swahili and English with English subtitles \nRunning Time: 82mins \nThis film contains: moderate violence\, infrequent strong language and discriminatory behaviour. \nBOOK TICKETS HERE \nWe want to keep prices to a minimum so as many people can come as possible. SUMMARY:B.A.D. CINEMA PRESENTS: IF I COULD WISH FOR SOMETHING
DESCRIPTION:About the event: \nDoors open from 7pm\, high-street entrance to Boscombe Arts Depot (B.A.D.) on Wednesday 2 November. We are delighted to continue our film screenings on Wednesday evenings with support from Film Hub South West through their audience development fund with BFI. This event is part of our autumn film programme series ‘The Show Must Go On.’ \nAbout the film: \nSi Pudiera Desear Algo (If I Could Wish for Something)\, 2021\, (rating TBA) directed by Dora García. \nAbout this film\, filmmaker/artist Dora García writes: \nThe inspiration and point of departure of this film is an old song\, written in 1930 by German composer Friedrich Holländer: “Wenn ich mir was wünschen dürfte”. This song\, translated into Spanish as “Si pudiera desear algo” (If I Could Wish for Something)\, has been in my memory for as long as I can remember. \nIt expresses poetically a very complex concept: that the disappointment of women has been going on for so long\, the promise made to them by the revolution has remained for so long unfulfilled\, delayed\, negated\, that the sadness\, the vulnerability derived from this feeling of abandonment has been turned into a shelter and a shield\, perhaps even a sword. In sadness\, we overcome the temptation to feel victimised and instead use pain as a conduit to recognize another’s suffering\, opening the possibility for an encounter with other struggles. \nWith this in mind\, I wanted to create a contemporary equivalent of the old song\, that could function as a soundtrack to the incredible feminist demonstrations that have been taking place – modifying and appropriating public space and public discourse – in the city of Mexico in the last 5 years. \nThe film follows two paths: one\, a collective recollection of images and sounds from these feminist marches in Mexico City; two\, the composition\, recording and final performance of the film theme song by trans artist La Bruja de Texcoco. \nFollowed by a Q&A with director Dora García. \nLanguage: Spanish & Purépecha with English subtitles \nRunning time: 65 min \nPlease note this film contains: moderate violence \nBOOK TICKETS HERE \nWe want to keep prices to a minimum so as many people can come as possible. Tickets are therefore £5.00. Free tickets are also available for those with low income\, outsider artists\, asylum seekers\, refugees\, vulnerable migrants and LGBTQIA+ community.
